September 2025 — When Pam Fisher heard the words, “You have cancer,” her world shifted forever. Diagnosed with stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma—an aggressive, rare, and incurable cancer—Pam was faced with a reality no one is prepared to hear. Rather than surrender to fear or despair, she chose to share her story, finding meaning, resilience, and even unexpected gifts along the way.
Her debut book, Living While Incurable – An Unexpected Gift, is an inspiring memoir born from her candid journal entries originally shared on CaringBridge. Written in real time as she navigated the uncertainty of her diagnosis, treatment, and daily life, the book offers a raw yet uplifting perspective on what it means to truly live when tomorrow is never promised.
“I never set out to write a book,” says Fisher. “I was simply trying to put my experience into words, to make sense of it for myself and share with my friends and family. People kept telling me my words inspired them, and eventually I thought, maybe this could help someone else too. My hope is to raise awareness about cholangiocarcinoma and, more importantly, to give even one person facing something life-changing a bit of strength, hope, or guidance.”
Now retired from a career as a medical coder, Pam resides in Florida with her husband and their beloved rescue dog. She enjoys walking the beaches, collecting shells, and embracing each day with humor, gratitude, and joy. In addition to her writing, she serves as a mentor with the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, offering encouragement and connection to others facing the disease.
connection to others facing the disease. While Living While Incurable will resonate deeply with those living with cancer, its reach extends far beyond. The book speaks to anyone experiencing adversity, loss, or unexpected challenges—reminding readers that while we cannot always choose what happens to us, we can choose how we live through it.
Living While Incurable – An Unexpected Gift is more than a memoir; it’s a testament to courage, authenticity, and finding light in the darkest places.
