An inspiring twist on the classic "Three Billy Goats Gruff" promotes inclusivity and friendship.
Author Keith Barrett is proud to announce the release of his new children’s book, The Friendly Troll: A Tale Retold, a fresh and heartwarming reimagining of the classic fairy tale The Three Billy Goats Gruff. This beautifully illustrated story is set to captivate young readers with a message of understanding, friendship, and the importance of not judging others based on appearances.
The book follows Bubba, Pogo, and Maxi, three billy goats on a mission to reach a lush meadow on the other side of a bridge. However, their journey takes an unexpected turn when they encounter Gruff, a large and intimidating troll. As the story unfolds, the goats learn that things are not always as they seem, and that even those who appear scary may be just as friendly and kind as they are
Keith Barrett, a lawyer and entrepreneur, first conceived the idea for this book in 2003 after the birth of his son, Dylan. Motivated by his new role as a father and a desire to leave something enduring for his child, Barrett was inspired to retell The Three Billy Goats Gruff. However, life’s many twists and turns delayed his dream for nearly two decades. Now, with great pride, he sees his vision come to life and hopes that The Friendly Troll will inspire not only children, but also adults who have long put off their creative ambitions.
“I hope my book encourages kids to approach new experiences with an open heart—and that adults, too, will feel inspired to pursue their dreams, just as I did with this project” says Barrett. “No matter what stage of life you’re in, the time to act on your passions is always now.”
The Friendly Troll is more than just a playful twist on a beloved story; it’s a gentle reminder to children aged 3-9 (and their parents) that friendship can blossom in the most unexpected places. With its captivating illustrations and positive message, this story is a perfect choice for bedtime reading, classroom storytime, or a cherished addition to any child’s bookshelf.
With its universal themes of kindness, inclusivity, and friendship, The Friendly Troll: A Tale Retold promises to become a family favorite for years to come.
