FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dr. Marcia Kaufman, a retired clinical psychologist with a lifelong dedication to helping children and families, is proud to announce the release of her debut children’s book, In A Time Before Rainbows. This beautifully illustrated story, aimed at children ages 4 to 8, offers an important lesson on diversity, emotional understanding, and the power of connection.
In A Time Before Rainbows follows a group of unique and colorful characters, each with their own distinct personality, as they come together to form a beautiful whole. Written in rhyming verse, the story teaches young readers how to recognize, accept, and communicate about their feelings while respecting differences in others. It suggests that when we struggle, connecting with others can help heal, creating a richer, more fulfilling life. Through this imaginative narrative, Kaufman aims to instill values of empathy and acceptance in children, while reminding adults of these same important lessons.
“My motivation behind writing In A Time Before Rainbows is deeply rooted in my years of experience working with children and families,” said Dr. Kaufman. “I’ve seen how crucial it is for children to learn how to navigate their feelings and understand others, especially in a world that is becoming increasingly diverse. I want to continue helping children, even after my career as a clinical psychologist, by encouraging empathy, kindness, and connection.”
The book’s vibrant illustrations, created by artist Annie Gilliland, bring the characters to life with bright colors and engaging visuals. This is Gilliland’s first children’s book, and her artwork beautifully complements the story’s message. She shared, “It’s been such a joy to illustrate a book that focuses on the importance of understanding and accepting one another. My hope is that children and their families will enjoy the journey of these seven unlikely friends and the lessons they learn together.”
In A Time Before Rainbows is designed for young readers but offers meaningful insights for adults, too. Whether shared in classrooms, homes, or libraries, the book encourages important conversations about emotional expression and the value of diversity.
Dr. Kaufman’s passion for helping others doesn’t stop with her writing. She continues to volunteer her time as a meditation and yoga instructor, while enjoying the company of her husband, children, grandchildren, and Goldendoodle.
