FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Day After His Crucifixion, a fiction work by Merikay McLeod, brings a fresh perspective to the story of Yeshua (Jesus) through the voices of women he helped, and healed, and drew into his circle. This poignant novella, available now, invites readers into the lives and experiences of women who were forever changed by their encounters with Yeshua the Nazarene.
While the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus have long been told through the lens of male disciples, McLeod's narrative centers on the often overlooked, yet deeply impactful testimonies of the women who witnessed these world-altering events. Drawing from McLeod's deep reflection on the lives of New Testament women, The Day After His Crucifixion presents an inspiring, heartfelt account of Yeshua's ministry.
In the novella, Peter's mother-in-law, the crippled woman bent double, the woman with the flow of blood, and the Cana bride who received Yeshua's first miracle at her wedding feast -- among others -- gather the day after his execution. They share memories, seek comfort in each other's presence, and recount how Yeshua's love, compassion, and teachings changed them. Through their personal stories, familiar Gospel events spring to life in refreshingly powerful ways.
"Most people are familiar with Yeshua's male disciples," says McLeod. "But Yeshua interacted with many women who rarely get more than a passing nod. I wanted to give those women a chance to tell their own experience of him. What would they want the world to know about Yeshua? This novella is my attempt to answer that question."
McLeod's path to writing The Day After His Crucifixion began in the 1970s, while engaged in Women's Studies at San Jose State University and continued through the 1990s, while pursuing a master's degree in Spirituality from Santa Clara University. Over the years, her personal reflections, academic studies and professional writing have resulted in this, her first foray into fiction.
The Day After His Crucifixion will resonate deeply with Christian women and girls, offering moving alternatives to typical devotional or instructional literature. The focus on storytelling and personal witness makes it an accessible and relatable read, ideal for individuals, book groups, or classes on women in religion.
The "Questions for Deeper Study" section encourages readers to consider how the biblical events presented seem unique when narrated from a woman's viewpoint.
McLeod, who spent much of her career as a journalist and editor, has been published in magazines including Good Housekeeping, MS, and Sunday Digest. Her passion for storytelling and her deep respect for Yeshua the Nazarene combine effectively in The Day After His Crucifixion.
